Caps United Head To Mozambique, SA

February 22, 2016

Zimbabwean star soccer club, Caps United, left for Mozambique on Friday to take part in a four-team, pre-season invitational tournament that will see them take on various other African clubs.

The tournament, which will be held as a round robin premise, will see the club from Harare take on some of Mozambique’s biggest soccer clubs, including Ferroviaro Maputo, Ferroviaro Beira and Textafrica.

Caps United is also not new to traveling to other African countries as part of pre-season trainign or friendly matches. Back in June of last year, the club also visited Mozambique where they played against Chingale de Tete  for a mid-season friendly match.

They have also visited Malawi in previous seasons for the same kind of pre-season warm-up matches.

However, traveling to Mozambique is not the only plan on Caps’ itinerary. After they have completed their trip to Mozambique, they will also travel to South Africa.

Caps will take part in a 10-day training camp in South Africa, where they will also be taking on South African premier league clubs Mamelodi Sundowns and Wits University.

Caps coach, Lloyd Chitembwe, said that the main purpose of this tour is team-building and to prepare the players for the upcoming season:

“…Basically the purpose of this tour is team-building. Spending some time away from home will help the new guys gel with the others in the team,” he said.

He also said that things have been going good for the team so far, and that they are testing out new tactics:

“…So far our preparations for the upcoming season have been going on very well. We had been working on the players’ fitness levels and we are now getting much into tactics. We will be trying different combinations in Mozambique and we hope to come back home with a lot of positives in that aspect,” he said.
