Bundesliga: Dortmund Sign Maximilian Philipp

June 08, 2017

German club, Borussia Dortmund, has signed midfielder, Maximilian Philipp, for the upcoming 2017/2018 season.

Dortmund was able to lure the energetic 23-year-old away from rival club, SC Freiburg.

According to German newspaper reports, Dortmund is said to have paid around €20 million for Philipp.

Dortmund, the current Bundesliga champions, announced the signing of Philipp on their official Twitter account.

“Welcome to Dortmund, Maximilian Philipp!” the club said, in a caption of a photograph of Philipp holding up a Dortmund shirt.

Philipp had an excellent season with SC Freiburg last season. He scored nine goals for the club, and was instrumental in helping them to qualify for the Europa League. SC Freiburg finished in seventh position in the Bundesliga.

Philipp signed with SC Freiburg in 2012 when he was only 18 years old and was placed in their second team. He made his senior team debut in 2014, and soon become a regular feature in the starting line-up.

He has also represented his country in both the German national U/20 and U/21 squads in 2014 and 2016 respectively.

Dortmund announced that Philipp has signed a 5-year deal with the club.

The announcement comes merely a day after Dortmund introduced their new manager, Peter Bosz, after the sacking of former manager, Thomas Tuchel.
