Bridge Collapses In Joburg
A temporary bridge, built with scaffolding and used as a walkway for pedestrians and cyclists, has collapsed entirely in Sandton, Johannesburg.
The bridge, named The Great Walk Bridge, was under construction by famed construction company, Murray & Roberts.
According to statistics obtained by various South African news outlets, it is estimated that more than 10 000 people walk and cycle across the bridge on a daily basis. It is not know how many people walked the bridge today.
It has been confirmed, however, that two people have died and several others have been injured because of the collapse.
Construction of the bridge was expected to be completed by October 2016.
It has not yet been determined what caused the collapse of the bridge and whether or not re-construction will begin on the bridge once it has been cleared.
The collapse caused a heavy traffic on the M1 in Johannesburg on Thursday morning.
