Brazil Wins Olympic Gold Medal In Soccer

August 22, 2016

Brazilians the world over broke out in cheer on Saturday as their country managed to win its first ever Olympic Gold medal at the 2016 Olympic Games in their own city of Rio de Janeiro.

With Brazil being the host country for this year’s games, there was more pressure than ever for the Brazilians.

It was all thanks to captain, Neymar, that the Brazilians walked away with the gold medal.

Neymar scored the first goal of the game for Brazil in the 26th minute. However, the world champions, Germany, didn’t allow Brazil to bask in their glory for too long, as they scored an equalizer in the 59th minute.

The game then came to the 90-minute mark at a draw, so they pushed on for extra time.

However, at the end of 120-minutes, the score was still tied at 1-1. This of course meant that the final would go into a penalty shoot-out.

And, luckily for Brazil, it was Neymar, once again, that allowed Brazil to take home the gold after Brazil won the penalty shoot-outs, 5 goals to 4.

It was also redemption for Brazil after they were humiliated by Germany two years ago at the FIFA world cup when the Germans thrashed Brazil 7 – 1 in the semi-finals.

An emotional Neymar (and the rest of the Brazilian team) fell to the ground after they had realised they won the Olympic gold medal.

“…I don’t have words to say anything…I can’t describe my feelings right now. I just want to thank my teammates, my friends and my family, who have been by my side during the most difficult moments. It wasn’t easy. I don’t know what else to say, I’m just really happy,” Neymar said after the match.
