Boris Johnson to Become British Prime Minister
To say that today will be an emotionally stirring and historical day for the UK is an understatement, as Theresa May prepares to make her final appearance as Prime Minister, and Boris Johnson will be asked to create a new government for the nation.
Johnson – who was the main face behind the “Vote Leave” faction for Brexit – will become Britain’s next Prime Minister after beating Jeremy Hunt for leadership of the Conservative party on Tuesday, 23 July, with more than two thirds of the vote.
May will deliver her last words before leaving Downing Street at 2:15pm, 24 July, in which she may be as emotional as during her dramatic announcement that she was resigning two months earlier.
She will hold audience with the Queen at Buckingham Palace at 3pm and will officially resign, while Johnson will arrive shortly thereafter and be requested to pick his “cabinet for [a] Modern Britain” at 3:30pm.
At 4:30pm, he will arrive at 10 Downing Street and is expected to give an upbeat speech, as is typical of his entertaining, albeit controversial character.
