Boko Haram Kills Female Aid Worker

October 16, 2018

Islamic State-allied Boko Haram militants have executed another kidnapped female aid worker in northeast Nigeria.

On 1 March, three female aid workers were kidnapped during a raid carried out by the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) in the Nigerian town of Rann.

Two of the women, Hauwa Liman and Saifura Khorsa, were employed by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC); the third woman, Alice Loksha, worked for the UN children’s agency, Unicef.

ISWAP is also holding hostage Leah Sharibu, a schoolgirl who was kidnapped in February this year.

In video footage released to media outlets on Monday, a tied-up Liman is seen being shot at close range.

Khorsa was killed last month by ISWAP, who claims that the two women deserved to be killed because they had abandoned Islam by working for the ICRC.

Nigeria’s Information Minister, Lai Mohammed, said: “We are deeply pained by this killing … However, we will keep the negotiations open and continue to work to free the innocent women who remain in the custody of their abductors.”

Nigerian military has been struggling to contain the activities of the Boko Haram. [online image] (2018) sourced on 16 October 2018 from: https://www.aljazeera.com/mritems/imagecache/mbdxxlarge/mritems/Images/2016/9/21/c614ece62da149b7948e3d826472853c_18.jpg
