Boko Haram jihadists raided a village in North East of Nigeria on Saturday, burning houses, looting food supplies, and leaving six people dead.

Boko Haram fighters arrived in trucks at Mairari, a village located in Monguno, a Local Government Area of Borno state on Saturday evening and began to fire guns and rocket-propelled grenades.

A militia leader, Babakura Kolo, who reported the incident to AFP said: “In the confusion, the Boko Haram gunmen seized six men and slaughtered them.”

“The bodies of the six victims were found this morning (Sunday) when residents returned to the burnt village,” Kolo said.

According to an eyewitness, Aisami Grema, the police stationed in the area didn’t attempt to fight the Islamists.

Another village resident, Masida Umar, said: “The militants ransacked the village for two hours before leaving”.

The Boko Haram jihadists also raided crop fields near Maiduguri on Friday, leaving four farmers dead.

Boko Haram are reportedly attacking civilians and Nigerian troops in an effort to put pressure on President Buhari’s government to address insecurity in Nigeria ahead of elections early next year.
