Most beautiful small towns to visit in SA
Neighbouring country, South Africa, is one of the most tourist friendly countries and a perfect place to go for a little vacations.
If you are a South African then you’ll know that we live in an exceptionally beautiful country. Breathtaking natural beauty and an abundance in fauna and flora puts us right on top when it comes to the most beautiful countries on Earth.
And while we know all the top tourist destinations like Cape Town, The Kruger National Park and Ballito for instance, there are thousands of unsung gems in the form of small towns across the country.
Here is out top three recommendations for a stopover on your next road trip through SA:
- Knysna
Most probably you have heard of Knysna somewhere along the line. The quaint little town is home to about 50 000 people and is about 500 km from Cape Town.
Knysna is a very beautiful little town. Famed for it’s gorgeous lagoon, the town also sports the famous Knysna heads. A boat ride on the lagoon and out to the heads is a definite must when you visit.
Knysna also has a beautiful forest, where you can rent cottages that are frequented by wild donkeys and horses.
- Sabie
Situated in the beautiful highveld, Sabie is a stonesthrow away from the Kruger National Park. This means that all the African beauty you will see at the Park, you will also get to see in Sabie.
As you can imagine, Sabie is big on nature. There are thousands of hiking trails, waterfalls and campsites around Sabie. A great idea is tio go on a guided nature trail – who knows, you might even spot a giraffe!
The best time of year to visit Sabie is in Autumn, just before the dry spell arrives in full.
- Port Edward
When you think of the South Coast of KZN, you will usually think of Ballito and Margate – two very popular holiday spots.
However, just a little bit further south of Margate is the small, yet beautiful town of Port Edward.
In Port Edward, you can expect everything you would in Margate, just in a quainter environment. The beach is beautiful and the weather is almost always great.
A special place to visit when you pop by Port Edward, is the Beaver Creek Coffee Farm – brewing some of the best coffee SA has to offer!
