Battle of the Beverages: Coffee vs Beer
Every morning, we get up and go to work. We all have our routines – we put down our bags, open our laptops, plug in our chargers, check our emails. But for most of us, there is but one thing on our mind…the wonder that is morning coffee. Most companies honour the promise of life-giving caffeine as a free office commodity, and honestly, we don’t know what we would do without it.
However, there is a new beverage making it’s way into the office space. Enter, the office beer. Trends are showing that more and more startup companies are offering beer to employees as well as coffee.
I know what you’re thinking – alcohol can’t be conducive to productivity. But, you may be surprised to know that, especially in creative industries, the benefits of beer are two-fold: it fosters creativity and improves social connections between employees.
But, as with everything, balance is key.
While beer makes one more creative, it can sometimes decrease focus and memory. In this case, all you need is a cup of coffee to boost energy and concentration levels.
It’s simple really. When you need to brainstorm and generate new ideas, reach for a beer. Once you have your idea and need to work on the details, grab the coffee.
Fun Fact: After approximately two beers, the area of your brain called the cerebral cortex reacts in a way that makes you worry less about worldly issues and distractions, allowing your brain to be more creative!
