Barca President: Messi Will Never Leave

Barcelona Football Club’s president, Josep Maria Bartomeu, has effectively said that star striker Lionel Messi will stay with the club until he retires.

Bartomeu recently told journalists that he is sure Messi will extend his current contract with the club and that, in fact, he will end his playing days at the club.

“…We are all convinced that he will end his playing days at the heart of this club. All the socios (stake-holding fans) believe it, it’s just a question of how we get over the line,” he told the media.

Messi’s contract is set to run out within 18 months.

However, Barcelona has recently extended the contracts of other star players such as Neymar and are currently negotiating with Luis Suarez.

Bartomeu is confident that Messi will stay with Barcelona, as he says Messi has enjoyed great success at the club:

“…This player has led us to our great sporting successes in recent years and he will continue to do so, he’s far from finished,” he said
