The winner of the 2019 Ballon d’Or award will be announced at the 64th annual ceremony on Sunday, 2 December in Paris – and fans are already debating who is likely to win it.

Virgil van Dijk backed by Klopp
Winning the UEFA Champions League has made Liverpool centre-back, Virgil Van Dijk, a firm favourite to win the Ballon d’Or ahead of Messi and Ronaldo.
Jurgen Klopp also believes that Van Dijk is the best candidate for the award among all seven shortlisted Liverpool players – as he was named the 2019 UEFA Men’s Player of the Year.
Lionel Messi backed by Mbappe
Five time Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi is a definite favourite to win the award. Despite losing the Champions League title, he lifted the La Liga trophy and won the 2019 Best FIFA Men’s player award.
Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe, who is also a fellow nominee for this prestigious award, suggests that Messi deserves it.
Does Cristiano Ronaldo stand a chance?
Despite having a tough season and missing out on the UEFA Champions League title, Ronaldo still won the Serie A title and he also led Portugal to victory in the UEFA Nations League, which could see him lifting the 2019 Golden Ball award.
