December 09, 2015

South Africa’s national under-23 soccer team (also known as Bafana Bafana) looks set to go into their match against Algeria on Wednesday all guns blazing.

The under-23 team will go up against Algeria in the semi-final of the CAF Under-23 Africa Cup of Nations tournament, currently being held in Senegal.

South Africa was at the top of the table in Group A, while Algeria ended at the top of their Group B group.

As for their records coming into the semi-final, South Africa lost their opening game against Senegal 3-1, but then went on to defeat Zambia 1-0 and Tunisia 3-2.

The under-23 national coach, Owen Da Gama said that the team is raring to go and cinfident that they will beat Algeria:

“…[sic] Oh yes, the dream lives on…When we left home the mission was to qualify for the Rio Olympic Games, and we are still on track….We mentioned that we will take it one game at a time, and it has worked for us…We did not want to get ahead of ourselves by thinking about the final before we had even qualified for the last four…Now we are just one match away from achieving our dreams. It would make life so much easier if we were to qualify for the final outright and eliminate all the pressure, that would also be killing two birds with one stone – qualifying for the Olympics and playing in the final,” he told reporters.

SA will take on Algeria at 17:00 today (local time).
