Avengers: Endgame Topples Avatar as Highest-Grossing Film Ever
Order has returned to the universe after several months of watching Marvel’s “Avengers: Endgame” claw its way past James Cameron’s “Avatar” to become the highest-grossing film of all time.
The conclusion to the Avengers’ film series surpassed the 2009 CGI-fest – which enjoyed a 10-year reign – when the former surpassed $2.79 billion, to race past the $2.789 that “Avatar” earned during its theatrical run.
Adjustment for inflation has yet to be taken into account, but for the time being, Marvel fans can enjoy the glow of their favourite film franchise being in the top spot.
The “Titanic” director retweeted a post from the “Avatar” twitter account which said: “Oel Ngati Kameie, I see you Marvel – Congratulations to Avengers Endgame on becoming the new box-office king.”
The Marvel film arc – spanning 22 entries which started with 2008’s “Ironman” – ended on a high note, earning impressive ratings from critics and scoring multiple accolades.
