‘Avengers 3 & 4’ directors revealed

April 08, 2015

Marvel has already scheduled release dates for the third and fourth Avengers films which are set to release as a two-part film titled Avengers: Infinity War – Part 1 and Avengers: Infinity War – Part 2.

Part 1 is scheduled for release on May 2, 2018 while part 2 hits a year later on May 3, 2019.

Once Marvel announced the two films, no director was attached and many assumed that Joss Whedon, who helmed the first two Avengers films would reprise his directing duties. However, this is not the case as Marvel has now officially revealed who’ll take the reins of this two-part film and its surprisingly not Whedon.

Rumours began swirling a few weeks ago that Joe and Anthony Russo – the directing duo behind the highly successful Captain America: The Winter Soldier – would helm the two-part Avengers epic. Marvel has officially confirmed that these rumours are 100% true as they announced Joe and Anthony as directors via a press statement published on their site.

"Marvel is proud to announce Joe and Anthony Russo will join the franchise as the directors of Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War – Part 1 and Avengers: Infinity War – Part 2" said the statement.

Of course the directing duo will first helm the third Captain America film which they are "currently preparing to shoot" according to the statement.

The statement also confirmed a few plot details of the third Captain America film that many of us deemed as rumours at the time: "The third film in the Captain America franchise will bring the classic storyline from the comics to life pitting Cap (Chris Evans) against Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), as well as introducing Black Panther to the Marvel Cinematic Universe with actor Chadwick Boseman ahead of his own film later in Phase 3."

The third Cap film titled Captain America: Civil War is set to hit cinemas next year.
