Aston Villa Welcome Back Douglas Luiz
Douglas Luiz has made his return to Aston Villa, joining Unai Emery’s squad on loan from Juventus.
The 27-year-old midfielder’s homecoming includes an option to buy, a transfer just 18 months after his £43 million move to Turin, Italy.
Luiz’s inclusion no doubt provides an immediate solution for Emery’s growing midfield injury list.
The Villans recently confirmed that ankle and knee issues will keep Youri Tielemans out until April, John McGinn sidelined for two months, and Boubacar Kamara ruled out for the rest of their campaign.
Since leaving Villa Park mid-2024, Luiz has struggled for form. He failed to secure a regular spot at Juve and endured a lacklustre stint at Nottingham Forest this season, where he made only one English Premier League (EPL) start under Sean Dyche.
Despite interest from Chelsea, he prioritised a move back to the club where he previously made 204 appearances.
His arrival bolsters a Villa side currently sitting third in the EPL rankings and competing in the Europa League. Time will tell if his skills will change the fortunes of Emery’s side.
