Arsenal Win FA Community Shield

August 07, 2017

Arsenal have won this season’s Football Association Community Shield, beating Chelsea 4-1 on penalties.

In what felt like a repeat of last season’s FA Cup final, Arsenal managed to charge past Chelsea and claim victory – a fantastic confidence boost at the start of their English Premier League campaign.

Chelsea seemed to have the game in the bag during the first half, with Victor Moses scoring the first goal of the match in the 46th minute.

The rest of the game went by goalless, until Arsenal’s Sead Kolasinac, scored the equaliser in the 82nd minute.

Chelsea’s Pedro had been sent-off by red card in the 80th minute, leaving the Blues with a 10-man squad for the penalty shoot-out.

Chelsea was trailing the shoot-out by 2-1, when Courtois and Morata both missed their penalty kicks.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Olivier Giroud each went on to score, handing The Gunner’s the win.

Speaking after the match, Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger, said that he was very proud of his team’s performance.

“I am very happy because we won the trophy that we wanted to win and I believe the quality of the game was good,” he said.
