Arsenal Win 13th FA Cup
Arsenal proved their are still the Kings of the FA Cup, after they managed to win their 13th FA Cup in Saturday’s final against Chelsea.
While it was touch-and-go for a moment, the Gunners managed to claim victory over English Premier League champions, Chelsea, who were out for yet another win.
Arsenal scored the first goal of the match fairly early on, when Alexis Sanchez scored in the 4th minute of the game.
However, there was some controversy surrounding his goal; with a slow-motion replay of the ball alluding to a possible handball.
The action seemed to mellow after the first goal by Sanchez, and it was only in the 76th minute that Chelsea’s Diego Costa scored an equaliser.
Costa’s goal certainly put a lot of pressure on Arsenal, and it was only three minutes later that Aaron Ramsey scored Arsenal’s second goal, allowing them to become champions of the FA Cup for a record 13th time.
The FA Cup win was somewhat of a saving grace for Arsenal, who failed to qualify for the Champions League for the first time in 20 years this season
The Gunners’ weak performance has also put immense pressure on manager, Arsene Wenger.
Fans have called for the removal of Wenger as manager for the past few months, and the 67-year-old has yet to announce what his future plans are.
However, Wenger has been a stalwart for Arsenal in his 21 years with the club. Of the 13 FA Cup tites that Arsenal have garnered, 7 of them was won under Wenger’s management. This has also made him the greatest manager in FA Cup history.
While Wenger’s future at Arsenal is still uncertain, he did say that he was very glad that his team united for the FA Cup final, despite a very rocky season.
“This team has suffered…They’ve united and responded. They showed strength and unity and played spectacular football today…I’m proud to have won seven of these cups [sic],” he said.
