Arsenal: Wenger Still Hopes for Top Four Finish

May 17, 2017

Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger, has insisted that his team can still make a top four finish in the English Premier League, despite having a rough season.

Arsenal managed to keep their hope – albeit faint – alive when they beat Sunderland 2-0 on Tuesday. The win pushed them into 5th position, only one point behind Liverpool.

Wenger told reporters after the game on Tuesday evening, that he has every bit of confidence in his team to pull it off and secure a place in the Champions League.

“We want to get in there, let’s give ourselves every chance…If you have only a one percent chance you still have to give everything,” he said.

Arsenal has their work cut out for them over the next week.

In order to secure a coveted spot in the Champions League, they will have to beat Everton on Sunday, and hope that either Liverpool or Manchester City slip up in their upcoming games.

On the other hand, should Liverpool beat Middlesbrough, and Manchester City beat Watford, Arsenal’s chances for a top four finish will disappear.

However, Wenger is not letting the odds against them shake his confidence.

“I think we have a good chance. If we win we know the most we will be behind is one point, so let’s see what happens [sic],” he said.
