Arsenal to Offer Counselling to Club Captain

October 30, 2019

Arsenal are reportedly prepared to offer skipper Granit Xhaka counselling, after he angrily confronted Gunners supporters last Sunday, 27 October.

In the midst of being substituted during the club’s 2-2 draw against Crystal Palace, Xhaka appeared to swear heatedly and make inappropriate gestures at jeering fans.

The 27-year-old Swiss midfielder then proceeded to tear off his shirt before storming down the tunnel.

Now, British sports outlets are reporting that Arsenal will offer Xhaka counselling, as suggested by coach Unai Emery’s comments in a recent interview.

According to Emery – who has spoken to Xhaka three times since the incident occurred – the skipper is “upset, devastated and very sad” by the turn of events.

He said: “[Xhaka’s] behaviour was perfect in training, with the group and the club, but really he knows he was wrong. He feels sad inside … it’s normal as a human being. Every player needs the supporters’ support.”

The coach added: “He is down, but the most important thing now is to look after him and his family, and to recover our best Granit Xhaka.”
