Arsenal Shoot to the Top of EPL Table

March 11, 2024

Arsenal have found themselves at the top of the English Premier League (EPL) table after an unexpected twist of events in England this past weekend.

The Gunners faced off against Brentford on Saturday, 9 March, at Emirates Stadium in London. A late goal from striker Kai Havertz ensured that Arsenal walked away with a 2-1 win.

However, the win was overshadowed by football fans’ high expectations for the match scheduled for the following day: Manchester City versus Liverpool. The two EPL giants were slated to go head-to-head at Anfield Stadium in Liverpool.

Pundits expected the victor of the match to be crowned as the leaders of the league, but the tense showdown – which went on for 100 minutes – ended with a 1-1 draw.

“If you’re Arsenal today, you’re thinking this is the perfect result. Liverpool will be thinking the same in a couple of weeks time when City face Arsenal,” sports commentator Jamie Carragher jokingly said to an international publication on Sunday, 10 March.

The results mean that Arsenal have scrapped their way to the top of the EPL table with 64 points; Liverpool are sitting just below them, mirroring the tally, and the Citizens are in third place with 63 points.
