Arsenal Receives Major Xhaka Injury Blow
Arsenal are facing a huge setback after midfielder Granit Xhaka injured his abductor muscle whilst on international duty this week.
The 26-year-old player sustained the injury during the second half of Switzerland’s match with Denmark on Tuesday, 26 March.
Switzerland was leading 2-0 when Xhaka was replaced ten minutes before the game finished. His team went on to draw 3-3 with Denmark.
In a post-match interview, Vladimir Petkovic, Switzerland’s head coach, explained: “Xhaka could not stay on the pitch. He asked me ten minutes before to be replaced. He had abductor problems, [so] he could not do any more.”
Regarding his recovery time, reports suggest that the midfielder could potentially be sidelined for up to three weeks.
Xhaka’s injury comes as a blow to Unai Emery’s team, who are pushing to gain a spot in the top four of the English Premier League. With its key player out of action, the club’s defense may be thrown into disarray when they take on Newcastle next Monday, 1 April.
