Arsenal Edge Closer to Signing Viktor Gyokeres
Arsenal are in advanced negotiations to sign Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres, with personal terms reportedly agreed on a five-year deal.
Gunners boss, Mikel Arteta, has prioritised the Swedish international over previous target, RB Leipzig forward Benjamin Sesko, as Sporting have opened the door to a summer exit below Gyokeres’s original €100-million release clause.
Gyokeres is apparently frustrated by the Portuguese club’s handling of an earlier informal agreement to consider a cut-price transfer. Sporting president, Frederico Varandas, has since confirmed a willingness to be “reasonable” on the fee, although he insists that the talented forward won’t leave for €65 million, including add-ons.
With 54 goals across all competitions last season, Gyokeres has emerged as a hot signing prospect. Arsenal’s sporting director Andrea Berta is driving the push to land him for under €80 million, despite Manchester United joining the race.
Sesko remains on Arsenal’s radar, with reports suggesting that his price tag has dropped to €70 million. However, Arteta also appears to have Eintracht Frankfurt’s Hugo Ekitike in his sights for the club’s wider plans, though his €100-million asking price – combined with Liverpool’s burgeoning interest – complicates matters.
With several high-profile moves brewing, Arsenal’s summer overhaul looks poised to gather pace.
