Arsenal Blocked From San Siro Trip by UEFA Ruling

September 03, 2025

Arsenal will not face Inter Milan at San Siro Stadium in Milan, Italy, during the 2026/27 Champions League’s league phase after UEFA introduced a new regulation.

The Gunners were drawn to play Simone Inzaghi’s side away in January 2026, marking a second consecutive league phase match in Milan. They also travelled to the Italian city during their 2024/25 campaign, when a Hakan Calhanoglu penalty sealed Inter’s win.

However, UEFA’s Club Competitions Committee confirmed last week that the same fixture cannot be staged at the same venue consecutively for three seasons. The change means that, should Arsenal and Inter meet again in the 2026/27 league phase, the game would instead have to take place at the Emirates Stadium in London, England.

The rule does not prevent the two clubs from meeting at the San Siro in the knockout rounds, while a tie with ground-sharers AC Milan would also still be possible.

Arsenal fans will therefore need to savour this season’s trip to Italy, as it may be their last chance to see the north London side take on Inter at the latter’s iconic home for some time. Real Madrid and Liverpool face similar restrictions under the new ruling.
