Ariana Grande in anti-US scandal
Break Free singer Ariana Grande caused a huge stir in a California donut shop when she exclaimed that she “hates Americans”.
The incident was captured on security camera footage in the donut store and was obtained by TMZ.
In the video, Grande and her boyfriend, which TMZ reports as Ricky Alvarez – one of Grande’s backup dancers – are seen waiting in the donut shop.
With no one peeking, the two begin licking a few donuts and seem to enjoy their mischief, all while laughing and kissing.
A few seconds later, an employee brings out a whole tray of donuts to which Grande loudly exclaims: “What the f**k is that! I hate Americans. I hate America. That’s disgusting.”

Grande later apologised for the comments saying that she had been referring to the obesity epidemic in America. The singer also claimed that her comments were “taken out of context“.
In the statement – released to Us Weekly by Grande – the singer said: “I am EXTREMELY proud to be an American and I’ve always made it clear that I love my country. What I said in a private moment with my friend, who was buying the donuts, was taken out of context and I am sorry for not using more discretion with my choice of words.”
Grande continued revealing why she overreacted:
“As an advocate for healthy eating, food is very important to me and I sometimes get upset by how freely we as Americans eat and consume things without giving any thought to the consequences that it has on our health and society as a whole. The fact that the United States has one of the highest child obesity rate in the world frustrates me.”
She did finally acknowledge her mistake:
“However I should have known better in how I expressed myself; and with my new responsibility to others as a public figure I will strive to be better.”
According to Yahoo Music, since the incident, Grande has bailed on the Major League Baseball All-Star Concert (MLB) for which she was supposed to perform. Demi Lovato has replaced her.
However, according to Grande’s statement, the singer withdrew from the MLB due to “emergency oral surgery” which she’s recovering from.
“As for why I cannot be at the MLB show, I have had emergency oral surgery and due to recovery I cannot attend the show. I hope to make it up to all those fans soon. That being said let me once again apologize if I have offended anyone with my poor choice of words.”
