Antoine Griezmann Extends Contract with Atletico Madrid
French international, Antoine Griezmann, has extended his contract with Spanish football club, Atletico Madrid until 2022.
The 26-year-old has been the focus of several transfer rumours. Various Spanish news outlets linked the star forward with a move to rival Spanish clubs, while others speculated a move to the English Premier League.
Speaking to the media, Griezmann made it clear that his heart is with Atletico Madrid and that he is committed to giving his best to the club he has been with since 2014.
“The first thing that I want to do is apologise to the people who misunderstood my statements…Maybe I expressed myself badly or someone wanted to make news where there wasn’t any, but since I came, I have given my all for my club, my teammates and my coaching staff, and I’m very happy to live one more season with all of you [sic],” he said.
Atletico Madrid’s sporting director, Jose Luis Perez Caminero, was, naturally, very pleased with Griezmann’s extension.
“[It is] great news because he is one of the best players in the world…Antoine is a different football player, capable of changing a match, with spectacular qualities, a very complete player [sic],” he told reporters.
