Angela Merkel Embarks on Visit to Ghana

August 30, 2018

German Chancellor Angela Merkel is scheduled to visit Ghana today, on the second leg of her three-nation west African tour.

Efforts to boost economic ties and limit irregular migration to Europe are reportedly at the top of Merkel’s agenda as she visits Senegal, Ghana and Nigeria this week.

The chancellor completed her visit to Senegal on Wednesday. There, she met with President Macky Sall to discuss economic developments in the country and regional cooperation.

Merkel will meet with Ghanaian President, Nana Akufo-Addo, in Accra today to discuss economic affairs and foreign policy.

Thereafter, Merkel will be taking part in a German business-organised round table that will focus on private investment linked to the G20 “Compact with Africa” initiative, which aims to promote private investment in Africa.

Finally, Merkel will visit Nigeria on Friday to meet with the president of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission, Jean-Claude Kassi Brou.

The chancellor will also hold talks with Nigerian president, Muhammadu Buhari.
