Ander Herrera Named Man United Player of the Year
Spanish international and Manchester United midfielder, Ander Herrera, has been named Player of the Year by his English Premier League club.
After an incredibly impressive season, Herrera was named the best player for the 2016/2017 season, out playing stars such as Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Antonio Valencia.
Valencia, however, was awarded the Player’s Player of the Year award by his peers.
Speaking at Manchester United’s prize giving ceremony on Thursday evening, Herrera said that he was very honoured to receive the award.
“It is very special for me to win this award because when you see the list of the winners you realise how important it is… and because I stop the record of David [de Gea] and because the trophy stays in Spain as well [sic],” he said.
Herrera later posted pictures to his various social media accounts of him holding the coveted Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award – a large sculpture of Man United legend, Sir Matt Busby.
Other winners of the evening included Henrikh Mkhitaryan and 16-year-old, Angel Gomes. Mkhitaryan won the Goal of the Year award for his incredible ‘scorpion kick’ goal against Sunderland on December 26th, while Gomes was named Man United’s Youth Player of the Year.
