Alexander Isak Fires Salvo at Newcastle in Transfer Saga

August 21, 2025

Alexander Isak has publicly accused Newcastle United of breaking promises amid his push to join Liverpool, prompting a swift response from the club.

On Tuesday, 19 August, the 25-year-old striker took to Instagram to share his thoughts: “When promises are broken and trust is lost, the relationship can’t continue. That’s where things are for me right now, and why change is in the best interests of everyone, not just myself.”

He claimed that the Magpies’ management had long known of his desire to leave if the right offer arrived, but the English Premier League (EPL) club rejected Liverpool’s £110-million bid earlier this summer and insisted he was not for sale.

In a strongly worded statement, the club said it was “disappointed” with Isak’s social media post and denied any agreement allowing him to leave. It added that conditions for a sale “have not transpired” and are unlikely to be met.

Isak’s relationship with coach Eddie Howe has plummeted, and the Swedish international has been spotted training away from the first team since he submitted a transfer request last month. He is expected to miss Newcastle’s EPL clash with Liverpool next Monday, 25 August.
