Ajax Star Snubs Man United for Liverpool
Ajax Amsterdam skipper, Matthijs de Ligt, has reportedly ruled out joining Manchester United in favour of signing with Liverpool.
The 19-year-old Dutchman – who helped Ajax reach the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League last month – is heavily rumoured to be leaving the club during the summer transfer window in order to seek new opportunities abroad.
As a result, De Ligt has been targeted by Manchester United – the English Premier League club have apparently made the £60 million-rated star a huge financial offer in a bid to sway him from joining Barcelona, who are believed to be his top choice.
However, De Ligt’s agent, Mino Raiola, reportedly wants his client to snub United and sign with top-seeded Liverpool instead, so that the defender can remain a regular in the Champions League.
Additionally, coach Jurgen Klopp has apparently asked Liverpool’s board to sign De Ligt so that he can forge an on-field defensive partnership with fellow Dutchman, Virgil van Dijk.
De Ligt is likely to make the decision regarding his new club once the Netherland’s involvement in the UEFA Nations League is over.
