Air Zim Plane Fails To Land In Bulawayo
An Air Zimbabwe airplane that was travelling to Bulawayo from Harare, had to abort it’s landing after technical issues prohibited the airplane from landing at Bulawayo airport.
The airplane then had to turn and around and head back to Harare, where it luckily was able to land safely at Harare International Airport.
Passengers aboard the plane took to social media to explain what happened aboard the plain. Many passengers said that the plane failed to land because of a technical problem.
However, Air Zimbabwe has said that the reason the airplane could not land in Bulawayo was because of bad weather that caused low visibility.
Shingai Taruvinga Dhliwayo, Air Zimbabwe’s public relations manager said that the plane could not land due to heavy cloud coverage over Bulawayo:
“…UM331 could not land in Bulawayo this morning due to low cloud cover in that city. The ground navigation aids at Bulawayo airport were not working and passengers were taken back later in the morning after the cloud cover had cleared,” she said.
However, some of the passengers didn’t seem convinced that the failed landing was because of low visibility.
On elf the passengers claimed that they were told there was a technical problem and that just before they were about to land in Bulawayo, they were notified that they would be returning to Harare.
He said that they were told the plane had lost navigation signal:
“…We were almost at Joshua Nkomo airport when we were told that the plane has lost the navigation signal. We were told the plane would make a U-turn so we came back to Harare…But the guys in Harare told us something different… we then departed at 10; 45hrs with another plane,” the passenger said.
