A$AP Rocky Returns to US Ahead of Swedish Verdict

August 05, 2019

American Rapper, A$AP Rocky, landed in Los Angeles on Friday night, 2 August, after being released from a Swedish jail, whilst he awaits the verdict in his assault trial.

The 30-year-old songwriter – real name Rakim Mayers – had been in custody since 3 July after he allegedly took part in a street brawl, beating up 19-year-old Mustafa Jafari on 30 June.

Judges in the trial declared that he – along with two of his co-accused – be released whilst a verdict is reached.

Mayers pleaded “not guilty” to the allegations, but prosecutors believe he should be jailed for six months – however he could face up to two years in prison should he be convicted.

Upon landing in the US, Mayers showed his gratitude with a post on Instagram: “Thank you from the bottom of my heart to all of my fans, friends and anyone across the globe who supported me…”.

A ruling is expected on 14 August.
