A Brooklyn Funeral for Pop Smoke
Late rapper, Pop Smoke, was laid to rest yesterday, Thursday 5 March, in a funeral service held in Brooklyn, New York City.
The slain 20-year-old songwriter – real name Bashar Barakah Jackson – was fatally shot during a home invasion at a friend’s home in Hollywood Hills, California, two weeks ago.
Family, friends and fans gathered in his home neighbourhood of Canarsie in Brooklyn to pay tribute to the “Welcome to the Party” hitmaker, as the horse-drawn carriage carrying his casket slowly made its way through the streets.
Last weekend, Jackson’s family held a private ceremony – but after Thursday’s procession, he was laid to rest in a Brooklyn cemetery.
Fans shared videos and photos on Twitter, one posted: “#PopSmoke Went Home In Style #rippopsmoke [sic]”
Another shared a video of the horse carriage and tweeted: “#Popsmoke [sic] took one last right through the streets of Brooklyn r.i.p[sic].”
Tributes have also poured in from several big names, including Chris Brown, 50 Cent and Post Malone.
