Sakho’s Absence A Huge Setback For Liverpool
The absence of one of Liverpool’s most important star players, Mamadou Sakho, has been a huge setback for the Premier League club, according to former Liverpool player, Jamie Carragher.
Speaking to English sporting channel, Sky Sports, Carragher said that the absence of Sakho has not only been a setback for the team, but also for the player himself.
Sakho was suspended after he failed a drug test for which he tested positive for a certain ‘fat burning’ drug.
Sakho had claimed that he was unaware that the drug was a banned substance and that he was not allowed to use it.
An investigation has since been launched and Sakho will remain suspended for the duration of the investigation.
Carragher, on the other hand, had some strong words for the 26-year old French international, as he said what he did was ‘unacceptable’
“…It’s a nightmare for the player…I think he’s let himself and the club down badly, because he’s become a really important player…There’s serious questions to be asked of him. He’s had a great campaign. He’s one of the leaders of the team now, certainly within that run, thinking about how well he played in the Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund games,”
He continued saying that it is now up to Liverpool as a club to successfully fill the void that Sakho has left:
“…It’s now how Liverpool fill that void. For a professional footballer, as in any sport, it’s not acceptable [what he did]” he said.
