5 ways to stay healthy this winter

  1. Consume more dairy 

We know that dairy products are full of calcium which is essential for a healthy body and strong bones. By stocking up on dairy during winter, you are not only keeping your bones nice and strong but helping your immune system build up resistance.

Yoghurt is a great and healthy way to pump your body full of vitamins, calcium and probiotics. Eating white cheese will also double your vitamin intake as it’s loaded with vitamins A and B12.

  1. Make sure you sleep enough

Our bodies naturally crave more sleep during winter. This is why it’s the ideal time to catch up one some lost sleep. 

Humans need at least 7 – 8 hours of sleep to function properly and ensure your body stays healthy and prepared to fight off winter colds and flu. Remember, a run-down body is 50% more likely to be infected with viral infections. 

  1. Exercise more

While the cold during winter can curb your enthusiasm for exercise, its important that you still get the necessary exercise during winter. 

Exercise, whether in winter or summer, will keep you fit and your heart rate pumping. Exercising in winter is also a great way to fight the cold, so get moving!

  1. Stock up on garlic & ginger 

Garlic and ginger has been associated with fighting colds and flu for centuries. The antioxidant properties in both garlic and ginger act as a natural flu prevention. 

Add a little ginger to your morning tea or a little garlic to your evening meals to ensure you get the immune boost you need. 

  1. Moisturize & hydrate

Our skin suffers most during winter. In the harsh winter months, our skin tends to becoming overly dry and scratchy and if you don’t watch out, it can lead to rashes and cold sores. 

This is why it is super important to keep your skin hydrated with a good quality moisturiser. Also, try and double your water intake during winter. Not only will you help your body flush out toxins, but you will also feed your skin to keep it smooth and nourished.
