5 Things You Didn’t Know about Selena Gomez
1. Gomez is an Instagram-free zone
She no longer has the Instagram app on her phone, and she doesn’t even have the password of her account (her assistant has this classified info).
Selena explained her decision, saying, “as soon as I became the most followed person on Instagram, I sort of freaked out. It had become so consuming to me. It’s what I woke up to and went to sleep to. I was an addict, and it felt like I was seeing things I didn’t want to see. I always end up feeling like shit when I look at Instagram. Which is why I’m kind of under the radar, ghosting a bit”.
2. She was named after Selena, the late Tejano singer
Selena was named after Tejano singer Selena Quintanilla Perez, who was shot and killed in 1995. She grew up listening to Selena’s music, and even went to the late star’s memorial statue in Texas.
At the age of 5, after watching Jennifer Lopez’s portrayal of Selena in the 1997 biopic, Gomez apparently asked her mom for a rhinestone corset.
3. She starts every morning with ginger
Gomez starts her day with a shot of ginger, or eating a piece of it. She also eats two carrots, a piece of celery and half a beet.
This is a vast change from 2015, when she revealed that she prepped for her performances with a McDonald’s meal and medium Coca-Cola before each show.
4. She has her own clothing line
Selena launched ‘Dream Out Loud’ in 2010. The tags have some of her inspirational quotes on them, and she insists on using eco-friendly materials.
5. She wants to invent pickle-flavoured gum
Selena loves pickles so much that in a past interview she stated that she’d like to invent pickle-flavored gum.
