4 Tips for Moving On from Your Ex
Ending a relationship can be devastating, even more so when you can’t seem to get your ex out of your head.
Whether you’re fresh out of a break-up or you’ve been single for some time, constantly thinking about your ex can prove to be a huge obstacle on your path towards happiness.
Fortunately, there are four ways for you to get over them and move on:
Avoid Contact as Much as Possible
Out of sight, out of mind is easier said than done, especially if you keep seeing your ex’s face on your favourite social media platforms, or you can imagine their voice as you read over their old text messages.
Unfollow your ex on platforms such as Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, and block them if needs be. Delete or get rid of their old photos and messages, and remove their number from your cellphone if you feel the urge to call or text them.
Spend Time with Loved Ones
As a couple, you probably found yourself spending less time with your friends and family. Now that the relationship is over, socialise with your loved ones, or try expanding your social circle. This will help make sure that loneliness doesn’t control your life.
Find New Passions
Does walking in the woods or baking cookies remind you of your ex? Try developing new hobbies and habits instead!
Whether it’s taking up exercising or a new sport, taking in the scenery at a park, or learning a new skill – knitting, painting, gaming, and so much more – cultivating healthy habits can be great for your physical and mental wellbeing. Plus, it gives you the opportunity to focus on yourself than on your ex.
Forgive and Forget
Whatever the reason behind the break-up, it’s important that you forgive your ex. Why? Forgiveness allows you to break free from the chains of the past and live freely in the present.
It also eases your pain, and releases any feeling of resentment and hurt that you’re harbouring – in other words, forgiving your ex can make you feel less inclined to dwell on them and the grief they caused you.
