2017 MTV Video Music Awards: Nominees
One of the most notorious music award shows is right around the corner, and this year, it seems that the MTV Video Music Awards will be more controversial than ever.
Ever since its inception in 1984, the MTV VMAs have been the stage for artists to showcase some of their more risqué performances.
Madonna paved the way for other artists at the first VMAs in 1984, when she performed her contentious hit, ‘Like A Virgin’ in a cheeky wedding dress ensemble.
In 1992, rock band Nirvana performed two songs that were not approved by MTV television executives, landing them in some hot water.
The princess of pop, Britney Spears, made quite an impression during her performance of ‘I Can’t Get No (Satisfaction)’ in 2000, when she ripped her clothes off to reveal a sparkling bodysuit.
Of course, no one can forget the infamous moment when Kanye crashed Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech, claiming that Beyonce had the better music video.
More recently, Miley Cyrus’ raunchy performance with Robin Thicke at the 2013 VMA’s was described as one of the most shocking in the award show’s history.
The 2017 MTV VMAs will take place on 27 August and will be aired worldwide.
