14 Elephants Poisoned
14 elephants have died following three separate poisoning incidents in the wildlife park, officials have confirmed.
The National Parks and WIldlife Authority confirmed today that 14 African elephants have died by means of cyanide poisoning and that it is believed they were poisoned by poachers.
Two years ago, poachers were the reason 300 elephants in the same area died – also from an apparent cyanide poisoning.
Three of the elephants were killed in Matusadona National Park in the Kariba area and 11 more were found dead in two different spots in Hwange National Park over the past two weeks. The park officials have said it is a devastating loss.
No arrests have been made in connection to the poisoning but officials have said there is a $400 reward for anyone with information that would lead the investigators closer to the capture of the poachers.
It is always tragic when innocent animals have to lose their lives because of greedy humans. It is estimated that close to 1000 elephants have been poisoned for illegal ivory sales over the past 5 years in Zimbabwe alone.
