Liverpool Icon Steven Gerrard Considers Coaching Future
Steven Gerrard might make a sensational return to Rangers FC as pressure mounts on under-fire manager Russell Martin.
The Scottish Premiership side recently enjoyed a much-needed 2-0 win over Hibernian, but they still sit near the foot of the table with only four points. They face pivotal games against Genk and Livingston in the next five days. Many believe these fixtures will decide Martin’s fate.
Gerrard, who ended Celtic’s bid for ten-in-a-row by delivering the 2020/21 Premiership title to the Teddy Bears during his stint from 2018 to 2021, is currently out of work and is now free to take a job in the United Kingdom.
The 45-year-old former Liverpool star – who previously left Saudi outfit, Al-Ettifaq, in January this year – is an obvious choice to replace Martin, but alternative candidates are in the mix, notably ex-Burnley boss, Sean Dyche, and Rangers legend Barry Ferguson.
Despite the latter’s steady tenure earlier in the year, many wonder if Ferguson will have the full support of fans.
Should Rangers flounder, club management’s focus will inevitably swing to the one candidate whose name continues to resurface: Steven Gerrard. His return could potentially electrify the Glasgow team.
